You Should Be Able to Update Your Own Website | Built With You Studio

Your website should not become outdated because you are waiting for someone else to make a simple change.

Have a calendar to update? New rankings or results to post? Items to add, remove, or mark as sold?

You should be able to do those things yourself.

That does not mean you need to build your own website, learn how to code, or manage every technical detail. It means your website should be built around the way your business actually works.

Everyday updates should be easy

A business website is not something you launch once and never touch again.

The goal is not to turn you into a website developer. The goal is to give you a website you can actually use.

Hours change. Events are added. Products sell. Prices change. New photos need to go up. Old information needs to come down.

You may need to:

  • Add an event to your calendar
  • Update rankings, scores, or results
  • Add new items for sale
  • Mark an item as sold
  • Change your hours
  • Update a price
  • Add a photo
  • Edit a service description
  • Post an announcement

These are normal business updates.

They should not require a developer, a support ticket, an invoice, and several days of waiting.

Your website should match your business

Every business updates different information.

A restaurant may need to change a menu or update its hours. A trainer may need to add classes to a calendar. A sports organization may need to post rankings, schedules, or results. A shop may need to add products, remove sold items, or update inventory. A service based business may need to add testimonials, update pricing, or change service details.

The website should be designed around those needs from the beginning.

You should not have to dig through complicated settings or worry that one small change will break the entire site. The parts you update regularly should be simple, clear, and easy to find.

You do not need access to everything

Being able to update your website does not mean you need access to every technical setting.

You probably do not need to manage the code, hosting configuration, integrations, security settings, or other parts of the site you rarely touch.

Too many options can make a website harder to manage, not easier.

A better setup gives you access to the things you actually need:

  • Your calendar
  • Your products
  • Your photos
  • Your pricing
  • Your announcements
  • Your business information

Everything else can stay safely in the background.

You should still be able to ask for help

Doing your own everyday updates does not mean you are completely on your own.

You may still want help adding a new page, changing the design, fixing a problem, improving your search visibility, or building a new feature.

That is different from needing help every time you want to change a date or remove an item that has already sold.

You should have both options. You can handle the small updates yourself and call for help when you actually need it.

Your website should belong to you

You should also know where your website is hosted, where your domain is registered, and how to access the accounts connected to your business.

You should not be locked out of your own website or dependent on one person holding all the passwords.

Even when someone else manages the technical side, the accounts should belong to you and your business.

Your website should not become unusable because a developer disappears, stops responding, or is unavailable when you need a change.

A website should keep working after launch

A website is not only successful because it looks good on launch day.

It should also be easy to maintain six months later.

It should grow with your business, stay accurate, and allow you to make the updates your customers rely on.
